Is there a way to keep from happening what I think is happening, which is that the communication between the cameras and the nvr is interfering with other devices on my home network.
What has been happening is that with the Zmodo cameras and NVR active on my wifi, I frequency lose connection to my wifi connected Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator, and the ability to stream music services such as Pandora through my Sonos system, and a WD Cloud drive.
In fact, when I had the cameras recording all the time, none of my internet enabled devices worked, including my Philips Hue, and Netflix on my wifi Blu-Ray player, and desktop computers that were connected to the router via ethernet.
Once I turned off continuous recording to the Zmodo NVR, most things worked OK. Except Sonos streaming music services, a WD Cloud Drive, and my Family Hub Samsung refrigerator, which would disconnect every few days.
So, just yesterday I decided to see what happens if I disconnect the ethernet cable from my Zmodo Nvr to my router, and like magic, the Samsung Family Hub has not disconnected once, and the Sonos started working again, and the WD Cloud drive started working much faster and smoother. In fact, before I did this, I was unable to even perform an update to my Sonos controller. After I removed the Zmodo NVR from the router, the Sonos update, accessing items on my home cloud drive, and connection to my Samsung Family Hub have not been a problem so far.
So, does it sound reasonable that streaming the video signal from my wifi cameras to my NVR (even if just a live feed with no recording) could be responsible for other devices failing to connect, or connecting intermittently? If so, is there anything I can do to keep Zmodo playing nicely with everything else I have connected to my router (wifi or ethernet)?
It doesn’t seem to matter that a device is on the 5Ghz wifi, and the Zmodo is on the 2.4Ghz wifi. So maybe the interference is occurring within router itself.
By the way, the modem is a cable modem with wifi built in, and a 4 channel router. I have another 8 channel router connected to the modem via ethernet. I have nearly every port on both the modem and the 8 channel router used up with computers, sonos, magicjack, phillips hue, and a WD Cloud Drive.
Also, by the way, even though I disconnected my NVR, I can still view live feeds from the Zmodo app on my phone, and see the short motion enabled alert videos that I get with the free motion alert cloud.
